Walking North to South of the Languedoc-Roussillon Region (Day 3 to 7)

A 500 km walk completed in 21 days. My chosen way to get fitter and in the process experience the amazing diversity of the Languedoc-Roussillon Region. I started my journey from the volcanic and granitic plateau of the Aubrac ending it in the Pyrennees flirting with the Spanish border.

La Canourgue (Lozère) - Millau (Aveyron): Leaving the Aubrac Plateau behind I crossed the border between the Aveyron and the Lozère in my imagination of a young boy living in the Parisian suburbs and learning the French geography two of the most remote departements in the country. After a couple of long strenuous days my brother and I arrived in the small town of La Canourgue sometimes referred to as the little Venise of Lozère…A bit far fetched I concede. We then climbed up the hills south of La Canourgue reaching the Causse de Sauveterre overlooking the Tarn river Gorges….down to the valley overnighting in Le Rozier before climbing up again towards the Black Causse. True physical and emotional rollercoaster with as highlights a dip in the Tarn river and breathtaking views over the blockfield of Montpellier le Vieux, the Dourbie Valley and finally the Millau bridge taking the time to observe the vultures flying above us….
