Walking North to South of the Languedoc-Roussillon Region (Day 15 to 17)

A 500 km walk completed in 21 days. My chosen way to get fitter and in the process experience the amazing diversity of the Languedoc-Roussillon Region. I started my journey from the volcanic and granitic plateau of the Aubrac ending it in the Pyrennees flirting with the Spanish border.

Padern (Aude)- Mijanès (Ariège): The Cathar castles route. Rugged trails with challenging height differences, where the Cathars, built between the 12th and the 14th centuries numerous castles hoping to survive the ruthlessness of the Catholics, the route is a feast of beautiful villages and jaw-dropping scenery leading to the foot of the Pyrennees. Riding the little red train between St Paul de Fenouillet and Axat has been a well deserved rest…
